Baylor starting guard Desmine Hilliard out for season

Baylor will be without a starting offensive lineman for the rest of the season.

The school confirmed Thursday night that guard Desmine Hilliard will undergo surgery on his wrist. Hilliard hurt the wrist late in the Bears’ 61-58 win over TCU last weekend.

The 6-foot-5, 340-pound Hilliard, a redshirt junior, started all 13 games at right guard for the Bears in 2013 for the Big 12 championship squad. With his season ending prematurely, junior Jarell Broxton is expected to fill in.

Broxton, a junior college transfer from Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa., actually started and split time at right guard with Hilliard against TCU. The 6-foot-5, 330-pound Broxton has seen action in every game for the Bears this season, so it should be a relatively smooth transition into the starting lineup.

Now 6-0 and ranked fourth in the nation, Baylor faces West Virginia at noon in Morgantown.
